Ilse was born May 1, 1934, in Frankfurt, Germany to Karl and Elisabeth Schmidt. She married her wonderful husband Walter Goebel and together with their daughter, Birgit made the life-altering decision to move to the USA. They continued to grow their family with daughters Susan and Erika.
Ilse was a skilled seamstress with her own alterations business. She made many dresses for her daughters and granddaughters over the years. She enjoyed flower gardening and chatting on the phone with her loved ones. She was confident in who she was, lived life to the fullest, and spread joy everywhere she went. She had a habit of quickly befriending strangers with her warm personality and inquisitive nature. Her sense of adventure was life-long. After Walter's passing, Ilse found love again with John Phillips and spent several years experiencing life in Las Vegas.
Above all, Ilse cherished her faith. It was the solid foundation on which she built her life and her family. Ilse was always a member of the Lutheran church, most recently Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn, Michigan. We rest assured that she is at peace in the arms of Jesus.
Ilse is preceded in death by husbands Walter Goebel and John Phillips. She is survived by daughters Birgit Chisholm (Duncan), Susan Klauer (Peter), and Erika Kaiser (David); grandchildren Sarah Olker (Jay), Meghan Pearson (Ben), Allison Peacock (Dakota), Amanda Klauer (Justin Viana), Emma Kaiser, and Elijah Kaiser; great grandchildren Tim Olker, Daniel Olker, Natalie Olker, Emmi Pearson, and Isla Pearson.
Ilse will be laid to rest with Walter at a future memorial service to be held in Armada, MI. We are grateful for the care she received while living at Wellspring Senior Living and Candlestone Assisted Living. Donations in Ilse's memory can be directed to Wellspring Lutheran Services, Candlestone Assisted Living, or a church or charity of your choice.
