Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Erik later moved to Macomb County, where he built a successful career in roofing. He quickly earned the respect of those around him through his unmatched work ethic and leadership.
An introvert at heart, he felt most comfortable at home with his family. He found happiness and peace riding trails in northern Michigan or West Virginia in the Polaris RZR he custom built. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures, especially a can of Coke, a good bourbon, and a perfectly cooked steak. A lifelong animal lover, he could often be found at gatherings sitting on the floor with the family dog.
Erik’s humor was quick, sometimes corny, but always perfectly timed. Those who knew him best will always remember his unmistakable laugh and charming, crooked smile.
Above all, Erik was a proud father of Connor & Caiden. Each year on his birthday, Erik would take the boys to the store and let them pick out a toy – a small but meaningful gesture that perfectly captured his selflessness. One of the many cherished moments Connor will carry with him is their familiar exchange, Erik asking “How do you know I love you?” – to which Connor would reply, “Because you tell me all the time”.
Erik shared an especially close bond with his grandmother, Edith, with whom he’d talk with daily. She was a constant source of warmth and love in his life. It brings comfort to know she was surely there to welcome him home.
Erik is survived by his loving wife, Jessica, which whom he shared a beautiful life together; his beloved sons Connor (5 ½ years) and Caiden (19 months); his mother, Cathy; his sister, Nikole; his uncle Dan; and his best friend Tommy, who was more of a brother and whose bond of over 20 years was a true testament of friendship, loyalty, and love.
He is preceded in death by his father, Lewis, and his grandparents, Edith and Dale.
Our family is grateful for your support, prayers and kind expressions during this time. Those wishing to make a donation will be contributing to Connor & Caiden’s future education expenses. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
