Donald Winston Smith

Donald Winston Smith, age 86, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away on Saturday August 5, 2023. Don was the son of Mervel Smith and Muriel Smith Chisholm, and was born on February 28, 1937 in Battle Creek and lived most of his life in Jackson. Don operated the Chisholm Smith Adult Foster Care Home for many years until retirement. He also owned and managed rental properties, worked for the railroad, and was a shop supervisor. Don spent a large part of the time at his cabin outside of Rogers Heights, Michigan. He loved animals and birds of all kinds and raised a large variety of them over the years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trail riding, and most of all spending time with family and many dear friends.

Don raised pigeons for show and performance and traveled extensively showing and judging them. He had many friends around the country in his pigeon hobby. He was a very active member and officer in several national and regional pigeon clubs.

Don was a very loving husband, father, and friend. He will be greatly missed by many.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his son Todd Smith. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Judy Smith, his daughter, Trina (Colleen) and husband Cliff Pelto, and bonus son, Hersh (Lee) and wife Becky VanEpps.

A celebration of his life by close family and friends will be held at a later date at this favorite place, his cabin.
