Cecile will be remembered above all for the love shared with family and the lasting impact made on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Whether celebrating milestones, offering words of encouragement, or simply spending time with loved ones, Cecile made every moment meaningful.
Cecile was preceded in death by her spouse, parents and siblings. Cecile was the beloved wife of her loving husband, John Gietzen; loving daughter to Leon and Luisa (DeBacker) Carlier; and devoted sister to her siblings, Adrien Carlier, Marcel Carlier, Josef DeBel, Maria DeSmet, Yvonne (Helen) DeSmet, and a treasured aunt to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was the sole survivor of her generation.
Those who knew Cecile will remember her welcoming family and friends to share a cup of coffee or a nice cold beer. She loved her needlework; made beautiful quilts and often donated crocheted blankets and knitted hats to Neonatal Intensive Care Units at local hospitals. Cecile celebrated life's joys, faced its challenges with grace, and left behind a legacy of love, resilience, and generosity.
Although Cecile will be deeply missed, the countless memories, traditions, and lessons shared will remain in the hearts of family and friends forever. We celebrate a life filled with love and give thanks for the time we were blessed to share.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at St. Isidore Church, 18201 23 Mile Rd, Macomb, MI 48042. Visitation will begin at 9:30am with a mass following at 10:00am. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and celebrate Cecile's remarkable life.
