I enjoyed getting to know Zivile through our common interest in poetry and translation. We corresponded and would meet occasionally at literary conferences or during various Lithuanian doings in L.A. She was most generous with her time, reviewing some of my books—poetry and translation—and offering me advice on various fine points as we worked on translating the poems of Bernardas Brazdzionis for the impressive bi-lingual volume she edited. Zivile  was an astute literary critic and scholar and, perhaps even more importantly, a kind-hearted, compassionate human being. She is missed.
