STEPHEN MICHAEL YOUNG, 1934 – 2017 Stephen Michael Young, 83, passed away peacefully in Newbury Park, California on October 6, 2017. Stephen was born on May 29, 1934 in Los Angeles, California and was the only child of Felix and Martha Young. Stephen graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1951and served in the United States Marine Corp from 1952 – 1955 where he saw action in the Korean War. He then earned a degree in History from UCLA in 1960 followed by a long successful career at Litton Data Systems. Stephen was a man of many talents. Two of the most memorable were his carpentry skills and his ability to work the Los Angeles Crossword puzzle in record time. For as long as his children can remember, he spent every morning with a coffee mug in one hand and the L.A. Times crossword puzzle in the other. Stephen was passionate about education and reading. Never without a book, he was especially committed to seeing his grandchildren enter college, and attending each of their graduations. He was also a lifelong Dodgers fan, listening to Vin Scully every chance he got. Stephen loved spending time on the beach with his family, and was never too old to catch a wave at Zuma. Stephen is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 44 years, June Young; three children with Patricia Yorke (wife of 13 years): Lori Lakey (Young), Darryl Young, and Teresa (Christopher) Weldon; three step-children: James York, Christy (Robert) Cohen and David Yorke; eight grandchildren: Shane (Lauren) Hasbrouck, Amanda Lakey, Rylie Weldon, Claire Cohen, Connor Weldon, Dean Cohen, Trent Weldon and Tyler Young; two great grandchildren; Harper Rose and Emerson Maurine Hasbrouck. Stephen touched many lives in a positive manner. He lived a rich and full life and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Stephen Michael Young, you will live forever in our hearts. A celebration of life will be held at the family residence on October 14, 2017; 11:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m.
