Richard D. Stubbs transitioned from his physical body to his spiritual home on Saturday, August 26, 2023. He was 83 years old. He was born in Los Angeles, California, and passed away in Santa Clarita, California.
Richard is survived by his loving family: beloved wife, Marilyn; loving daughter, Michele Stubbs-Kahn; loving son, Michael S. Stubbs (wife Cindy); grandchildren – Ethan, Gabrielle, Isabel, Elizabeth, Ilana; loving stepson, Greg Aliano (wife Heather); loving stepdaughter, Andrea Ciongoli; late stepdaughter, Sandra Aliano; step-grandchildren – Vincent, Anthony, Andrew, Olivia and Makenna. Richard’s niece, Christy Stubbs-Jamison (husband Dennis, children Payton and Taylor); nephew Gregory Stubbs; cousin Bonnie Stubbs-Pulliam (husband Glen and their children).
A magical presence, Richard always welcomed everyone into his life, giving advice, encouragement and love in his quiet way. He was honorable and steadfast. Handsome and gentle. Insightful and honest. He will always be my compass rose.
Richard graduated from Hamilton High School and graduated from both UCLA and USC with engineering degrees. He was an amazing role model. Richard was a very successful mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry for many years. Eager to help others, he worked as a crossing guard for the City of Santa Clarita for a few years and then went on to volunteer at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for a few more years.
He loved musical theatre, and we often attended his daughter’s community theater performances. Richard’s patience and intelligence led him to figure out how to repair his 1952 MG TD over the years since he drove it to UCLA, and he taught his son those skills.
His love of the ocean formed when he was a teenager sanding and varnishing surfboards with his friends and spending time surfing, diving and snorkeling off the coast of southern California. After retiring, he thoroughly enjoyed building model electric airplanes and flying them with friends at Apollo Field in the San Fernando Valley. Richard was an avid sailor and spent as much time as possible sailing with his family.
"Fair winds and a following sea" my love.........always in our hearts
