

Ralph A. Courtney III, a retired public defender for the county of Los Angeles, California, died on October 21, 2022 at the age of 75. He was a life-long resident of Northridge, California.
Ralph, or "Trey", as he was known by his family, is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judyth Courtney; his children, Collen Andersen and Ralph A. Courtney IV; his grandchildren Casey and Charlotte Andersen; and Sette and Sophie Courtney; siblings; Jon and Rob Courtney and Barbara Walker.
He was born in 1947 to Ralph A. Courtney Jr. and Julia Courtney. He graduated from UCLA in 1969 with a degree in Political Science and Government. He went to earn a Juris Doctorate from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco in 1972.
He was a devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He also loved cars, especially British Morgans and classic America cars. He attended "Hot August Nights" in Reno, Nevada every year with his cousin, Barry. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Reseda, serving on the Board of Trustees and as a Lay Leader.
Ralph also served on the Foundation Board of California State University, Northridge. He enjoyed cheering on the Matador basketball team and attending performances at the CSUN Performing Arts Center. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Reseda.
