Pearl Rose Adams, Age 97, 364 days, 21 hours Born: January 7, 1919, Philadelphia, PA Died: January 6, 2017, Chatsworth, CA Pearly Mae, as she was know to many, passed as she lived, not quite ready to leave the party. But our Lord was ready for her, as was her beloved husband Jim, who waited 12 1/2 years to be reunited with his "Rascal". Her daughter, Julie, and one of her grandsons, Dan, were with her to see her safely home. Pearl grew up in Philadelphia and when WWII broke out, like many women, she went to work as a welder in the Philadelphia Ship yard. After marrying her husband, James Adams in 1943, they moved to California in 1946. She spent many years as a stay at home mom before she went to work for Win Hughes Insurance Agency, where she stayed for over 20 years. She helped blaze the trail for what women could accomplish and was an inspiration to her daughters, as well as the many girls and women she met throughout her life. She and Jim were one of the founders of a camper club, The Weakenders, in 1962, which is still holding weekend campouts to this day. Pearl was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for both her daughters, and later their respective Tri-Hi-Y club's advisor. After Pearl and Jim retired, they traveled extensively throughout the US, Canada and Mexico in their truck and trailer for over 20 years, many times with a grandson or two in tow. They loved to travel as much as they loved each other, they were quite a team. When they were at home they spent much of their spare time sitting in the bleachers watching one of their three grandsons play football, baseball, soccer or whatever the game du jour was....they didn't care....they loved those boys!!! Pearl will be missed by many. During the last month of her life she was surrounded by friends from her church, Northridge United Methodist, her neighbors and family. Pearl was an active member at NUM for many years, and a participant of the Blue Jays, New You and dinner bridge groups. She taught bible study and was always ready to lend a hand at any event the church held. Her family will miss her most and her lively contributions to their many dinners, celebrations and gatherings, with her always expected, loud, "Yahoo!" yell! Pearl is survived by her daughters; Julia Aldrich-Eder (Randy) and Linda Sue Coville (Denny). Her grandsons; James Aldrich (Annushka), Daniel Aldrich (Nedda) and Trevor Coville (Stephanie). Her 8 great grandchildren; Natalie Aldrich, Collette Aldrich, Monique Aldrich, Jordan Aldrich, Caleb Aldrich, Treyson Coville, Declan Coville and Callen Coville. As well as her many Philadelphia, CA and Mississippi nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and great, great nieces and nephews. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband; James Adams. Her mother and father; Rose and Charles Gudmundsen Sr. Her brothers; Charlie and Thor Gudmundsen. Her sister-in-law; Patricia Gudmundsen. Her brothers-in-law; Jack Adams and William Adams Sr. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, February 19th, 2017. 3:00 p.m. Northridge United Methodist Church.
