Marilyn Alice Swenson

After a short illness, Marilyn Swenson passed away peacefully in Palmdale, California at the age of 103.

Marilyn spent her childhood in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of William and Alice Steinert, and sister to Jane, Mavis, and Carol. In the late 1940s, after finishing high school and secretarial school, Marilyn followed her sister, Mavis, to San Diego where they both fell in love with palm trees and warm winters. It was there that they each met their future husbands.

Marilyn’s training and talent as a stenographer led to her work as a personal secretary for a bank president in downtown San Diego.

Marilyn was predeceased by the love of her life, Leslie Swenson. Marilyn and Les, long-time residents of El Cajon, California, enjoyed gardening, tending to their beautiful orange trees, and playing with their beloved dogs: Snuffy, Nicky, and Max. They also enjoyed tent camping in the Sierras, and their trips to Europe, Hawaii, and Laughlin.

Both Marilyn and Les were avid sports fans, especially for the San Diego Chargers and Padres. In fact, even after her Chargers moved to Los Angeles, Marilyn remained a lifelong devotee, counting the weeks until the start of the football season.

Marilyn’s favorite pastimes were reading the daily newspaper and faithfully watching her favorite T. V. show, Jeopardy. Until her very last days, Marilyn remained “sharp as a tack” with a remarkable memory for names and conversations.

Marilyn is survived by ten nephews and nieces. She spent her last three years residing at Palm Vista Senior Living where she received excellent care. Marilyn enjoyed the companionship of many people there, especially her good friend, Genny.
