Larry Lynn Holbrook February 13, 1942-January 30, 2017 Larry Lynn Holbrook, loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at home surrounded by his family on the morning of January 30, 2017. Larry was born in Saylersville, KY, on February 13, 1942. He moved with his family to Detroit, MI, in 1949. In 1959, he graduated from Cass Technical High School then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959-1963. After his honorable discharge, he moved to California where he worked at Lawrence Livermore Labs. It was here he met and fell in love with Margaret Covell, who he married in 1965. Larry continued working at Lawrence Livermore Labs while he and Margaret attended Cal State Hayward. Larry graduated from Cal State Hayward in 1968 and worked for the Stanford Research Institute, then Safety Specialists, Inc., before starting at Hewlett Packard in Palo Alto, CA, in 1973. It was here he spent most of his career as a manager of corporate environmental health and safety, a position that allowed him to travel to Europe and Eastern Asia. He received his MBA from Santa Clara University in 1976. In 1969, Larry and Margaret moved to San Jose, CA, where they raised their two daughters, Heather and Holly. Larry enjoyed coaching their soccer and softball teams, participating in YMCA Indian Princesses with them, and enduring many years of BINGO to support them in their high school marching band. Larry was a fun and loving man who was admired by his family and friends. He enjoyed everything about cars, old and new, and loved taking his little car for drives through the foothills while listening to his 50's music. He liked to ride his bicycle down the neighborhood trails, and he loved traveling with his family to Disneyland, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Point Reyes, and many other places. He also enjoyed trips to Massachusetts and Michigan to visit Margaret's and his relatives. In 2000, Larry retired from Hewlett Packard after 27 years. He and his wife Margaret continued to travel and enjoy cross country trips, cruises to Alaska, Australia, the British Isles, eastern Canada, and Hawaii, and trips to Southern California to visit his two daughters. Larry and Margaret moved to Burbank, CA, in 2011 to be closer to their daughters and granddaughters. Larry was a wonderful grandpa who lit up every time his grandchildren were around. He enjoyed trips to Disneyland and his daily walks to the neighborhood Ralphs grocery store for his cup of coffee and conversation with neighbors. Larry is survived by his wife Margaret, his two daughters, and his two granddaughters, and his siblings Pat Karagitz, Ron Holbrook, Greg Holbrook, Wendell Holbrook, and Linda McCarty. A memorial will be held at Miramar National Cemetery at 1 pm on Friday, March 10, 2017.
