John was born at The Hospital of Good Samaritan in Los Angeles, California. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where his parents, John and Monice, along with his grandparents Lloyd and Marie Allen, built and opened the Monie Marie Motel in the 1950s. John and his siblings treasured their childhood memories growing up there. He graduated from St. Anne’s Catholic School and was a proud alumnus of Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, class of 1966. In 1968, he earned his certification in Commercial Transportation from Airline Schools Pacific in Los Angeles, California, and subsequently worked as an agent for Continental Trailways.
In 1977, John established his own business, The Pool Patrol, in Los Angeles, serving many local homes until his retirement. A passionate gardener, John created a lush oasis in his backyard, complete with a Koi Pond that he and Bruce Maly built in the 1970s. His mornings and evenings were spent tending to his garden, which became a haven for birds and pollinators. He also enjoyed caring for his neighbors' gardens, cherishing the time spent with them.
John was a devoted supporter of the arts and film community in Los Angeles, aiding numerous emerging artists, producers, and actors. He was also a fervent advocate in the fight against AIDS, participating in numerous fundraisers, walks, and charitable events, and dedicating time to studies benefiting the HIV/AIDS community. An enthusiastic PEZ collector, John began his collection in the late 1980s in Las Vegas. Additionally, he was an active eBay seller, running his store, kellercorner, since January 2005.
John's life was marked by his dedication to his work and the deep connections he made with those around him. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his warmth, and the lasting impact he had on everyone he met.
John was a loving son, brother, uncle, uncle-in-law, great uncle, and a loyal, generous friend. He is survived by his siblings, Nancy Marie Keller (Mountain Brook, Alabama) and James Lloyd Keller, OD (Las Vegas, Nevada); his nieces, Jennifer Sloan Hislabeck (Suwanee, Georgia) and Lauren Marie Sloan Yearout (Jason) (Mountain Brook, Alabama); and his great-nephews and niece, Joseph Anthony Kennedy, Jr., Zoë Marie Yearout, Jaegar Hilsabeck, and Jake Hilsabeck.
