Charles Joseph August May 9th, 1939- April 14th, 2017 Friend, family, member of the UCLA tribe in the ‘60’s, he was one smart guy, insightful with people and with science and always caring and careful. But oh, so much more, he knew more about you than you knew about yourself. He was a good listener, and when he spoke he often brought out an important truth. Privacy was important to him, and so was avoiding foolish people. He was cool – he knew where to go, what to wear, what was hip and how to hold an interesting conversation. He was an Angelino through and through. Grandson of famed cinematographer and co-founder of the American Society of Cinematographers, Joseph August, and son of well known cameraman, Joseph August Jr. As a professional, he was a leader who allowed others to learn and take credit. He shared knowledge and used his easy going temperament and kindness to create a great atmosphere. Knowing that he was not average in many ways – far more intelligent, more forward thinking, and more accepting of alternative choices in life – still he did not boast or sell himself but enjoyed everyone. He was friends with all from start to finish, simple to complex, young and old, without missing a beat, and friends for life to so many who miss him now. We miss you and we will remember you, our dear Dr. Charles Joseph August.
