Michael, as he preferred to be known, was married to Susan Jane Lehman for 44 years. Together, they had two children, Noah and Nora. Following Susan's passing, Michael reunited with and married his college sweetheart, Loretta Ayala Sifuentes.
As a young man, Michael served in the Air Force Reserve. He attended UCLA, where he earned both his Bachelor of Arts degree and later his Juris Doctor degree.
Michael devoted much of his career to public service as a prosecutor with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. During his distinguished career, he prosecuted thousands of criminal cases, many of them within the Hard Core Gang Division, where he eventually became Division Head. After 34 years of service with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Michael continued his commitment to justice and public service through projects affiliated with USAID. His work took him to Bratislava, Palestine, Tanzania, Nepal, South Sudan, and other countries, where he focused on government and judicial reform initiatives.
Following this chapter of his career, Michael and his wife, Susan, settled in Paris. There, he authored four of his five published novels featuring Jana Matinova, a brilliant Slovak police inspector and investigator. In addition to his legal career, Michael was an accomplished writer for television and community theater. One of his plays was featured at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles.
Michael is survived by his wife, Loretta Genelin; his son, Noah Genelin; and his daughter, Nora Weyl.
He will be remembered for his dedication to justice, his passion for storytelling, and his lifelong commitment to public service
