Janet Maxine Baker

Janet was born in Bedford, Indiana to James and Carrie Williams, and was the youngest of six children. She graduated from high school in 1942 in Bedford, Indiana. She was married in 1945 to Wayne C Mayden and they had two children, David W Mayden (1948) and Michele (Shelley) D Mayden (1950). They were divorced in 1952, Janet and her daughter stayed in California and Wayne and David went to live in St. Charles, Missouri.

When Shelley graduated from high school in 1968 they moved to Santa Barbara, California. Janet worked as a civil servant for the USAF and US Soil Conservation until her retirement in 1972. She worked for many years for the Ranchero Visitadores until permanent retirement.

She remarried in 1972 to Robert Baker, who passed away in 1981. She volunteered for many years with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dept. and Goleta Valley Hospital. She was a very prominent member of the Beta Sigma Phi organization and the Santa Barbara Sister City group for many years.

She is survived by her daughter Shelley McAleer (Tom). She was preceded in death by her son David W Mayden (2020). She will be buried at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas at the family burial site.
