Gloria Jean Seter passed away peacefully April 27, 2023 after a rapid decline in health. She was born Gloria Jean Ahlbrandt, June 28, 1943 in Denver, Colorado. She was the oldest of three girls in the family. She worked for AT&T as a telephone operator and later in their financial office in Denver. She married Arthur Seter of Santa Monica, California in December, 1967, who gave her seven brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law, ten of their spouses, and thirty (and still counting at the time) nieces and nephews. She said she “always wanted a brother”.
The couple moved to Oxnard, California in 1968 and to Ventura, California in 1970 and had two children, Phyllis and Chad. She enjoyed traveling as a family throughout the Western states, visiting friends and relatives and national parks. She was especially excited to be at Edwards Air force Base to watch the space shuttle Columbia land and the space shuttle Challenger on top of a 747 jet take off from the base to travel to Florida.
She loved animals, so stray cats and dogs seemed to magically find her, and we always had pets around the house, and even the ones the children brought home were welcome and two kittens among them had to be bottle fed. There were rabbits that were raised for 4-H and one of them was bottle fed. There were also purchased animals like guinea pigs, a rat and fish.
Gloria volunteered for several years as a pink lady at Community Memorial Hospital, as well as providing support to several seniors through membership in the Caregivers organization. She was a member of Missile Mrs. at Point Mugu and volunteered to work at the Point Mugu blood bank. She was a co-girl scout leader, supported the children in 4-H projects and helped with Indian Guides and boy scout projects. As a soccer mom she provided loud cheering, encouragement and halftime treats for the team. She also welcomed the neighbor children into our house for snacks and playing games.
Gloria’s family wishes to thank Access TLC Homecare and Access TLC Hospice for the help they provided caring for her. Special thanks go to the owners and staff of Blissful Grannies Home in Oxnard for welcoming her like family and making her as comfortable and well cared for as possible in her last days.
She will be missed by her family and many friends she has been in contact with over the years. She is survived by her husband, Arthur, Phyllis McGrath (Dan), Chad Seter (Kristy) and four grandchildren Dominick McGrath, Mina McGrath, Christian McGrath and Austin Seter as well as a sister Patricia Aschenbrenner of South Carolina. No funeral or memorial is planned.
