Mr Loya was my Home Room teacher, busted me drawing cartoons on a desk, with a pencil.  He pulled me into his office and encouraged me to take on an art carrier.   I was then in charge of making characters for YGAD (Youth Gives a Damn) and graphics for CASHE, (California Association of School Health Educators) 2 groups/projects that he started.  He took me to Trade Technical College and had me enroll in Commercial Arts classes after graduating from Huntington Park High School.  We created "Healthy Words" a book with key vocabulary words and meanings for teachers to use in their class.  I landed a career in Graphic Design, got married, purchased a house, had 2 sons and straightened my life because of him.  I owe him a lot because I came from a difunctional and abusive family.  He lead me and many young teens with advise and put a lot of us to the right path.  As the years went by, I never forgot his advise, we get busy in life so we lost contact.  I found out about his passing a day afterwards, it was very sad for me.  But his legacy lives on through all the people he touched.   Thank you Mr Loya for being there for me.

ric would call me on a friday night or saturday with just one thought or idea then hang up. he was always working but had a great travels with Linda later on and he always wrote in lower case.

Mr. Loya you will be missed he was a wonderful person on this earth and God has him now as an angel

Ric helped so many young people by advocating for better health.

Rest in Peace Big Guy. You were always a great mentor and person with great wisdom.

We organized the 1st AIDS conference for teachers in LA in 1987, and so much more.
