Jeffrey Schaum was born August 14, 1978 in Orange, California. He grew up on a sailboat with his mother, Diane. The experience instilled in him a lifelong love of the beach and the ocean. Jeff spent his entire life in and around Long Beach where he made a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
Jeff had a passion for golf and was a proud member of The Lakewood Country Club, Men’s League. He also had a deep love for pool which he played from a young age at Lakewood Family Billiards, later named Good Times Billiards. In 2008, Jeff won his first pool league game and later became the co-director of the BCA Pool League.
Those who new Jeff often spoke of his infectious smile, his sense of humor, and that he lit up a room with his presence. Jeff was known for his strong work ethic as evidenced by his 23-year commitment to United Employees Law Group. He earned the respect of his colleagues as a hardworking and dependable coworker.
Beyond Jeff’s career and hobbies, he was a family man. Jeff was always there for his mother, especially when she suffered a neck fracture in a recent accident. Jeff was a caring father to his two children, Chelsey and Dylan. One of their most recent memories was going to the theater as a family to see Mufasa. It was such a fitting moment as Jeff and his children shared a deep fondness for The Lion King since his eldest was a little girl. Jeff loved and was loved by his partner, Angie, with whom he shared a passion for travel and exploring the U.S.
On the night of Thursday, March 13th, Jeff was with his pool league when he began to feel ill and decided to head home early. Jeff passed away in the early morning of March 14th, due to cardiac arrest. He was only 46 years old—his life was taken far too soon.
We have found comfort knowing that Jeff was doing what he loved that night and that he left surrounded by those who loved him.
Jeff will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his mother, Diane, his partner Angie, and his children, Chelsey and Dylan. Jeff’s ashes will be returned to the ocean, his favorite place, where we will all think of him whenever we see the waves.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Phil Trani’s on April 26, 2025, from 1pm-5pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association in Jeff’s name.
