On June 1st 1935 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Jean Gwendolyn Lucas was born to Ada Alberta ‘Bert’ and Marion ‘Buddy’ Lucas. She was named for two of her mother’s sisters, and was an only child. Jean grew up during the Depression Era of the 1930’s; therefore the family did not have much. After her parents divorce, they relocated to her mother’s hometown Chicago, Illinois. As a child Jean was given the nickname ‘Poochie’ because of her love for animals and much to her mom’s dismay, she brought home many a stray. In school she was an excellent student especially excelling in art. Jean was an accomplished painter and loved to sketch. In middle and high schools she won several awards for her art and some of her work was placed on exhibit in galleries. Shortly after her graduation from DuSable High School in Chicago, her mom remarried and the family relocated to Los Angeles. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service and met then married Carl Brown. From this union her only daughter Carla Jean was born. After dissolution of this marriage Jean began working for Los Angeles County, where she met and married Earl Hall. In April 1968, her only son Brian Dall was born. Jean developed a taste for the finer things in life. She possessed exquisite taste for fine jewelry and loved to shop! She had a passion for flowers and grew beautiful plants. She loved music and her favorite artist was Johnny Mathis. Poochie had a flair for fashion and always dressed sharp, carefully coordinating outfits, shoes, and jewelry. Jean was always well manicured and her hair was tastefully styled; she was beautiful inside and out! Her mother Alberta passed away in January 1995 just prior to Jean’s retirement in March 1995, after 32 years with L.A. County. Jean was divorced once more and married Milby Bouldin who widowed her in 1997. Jean lost the battle with terminal illness on April 23rd, 2017 after gracing us with her presence for 81 years. She had a beautiful smile and was loved by many. She will surely be missed… She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Carla, and son Brian, four grandsons Nathaniel, Steven, Makir, and Kadyn; two granddaughters Danielle and Zaree; and three great-grandsons Markie, Marquese, and Brandon. Her eldest grandson Marcus pre-deceased her in 2012. Jean‘s only surviving Aunt Gwen resides in Arizona. A host of cousins and friends also survive her. Jean insisted on cremation and that her ashes be scattered at sea on a sunny day. This ceremony is forthcoming in a private ceremony.
