George Donald Rendell

GEORGE D. RENDELL of Long Beach, CA, passed away on February 19, 2023. He was 91. George was born on March 11, 1932, in Rialto, CA., the son of George and Mabel Rendell. He had a happy childhood with his beloved sister, Wilma. He graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School, where he served as Student Body President and participated in a 4-H student exchange program to England.

He obtained his B.S. in Animal Husbandry from the University of California at Davis and his Masters degree from the American University in Washington, D.C. At Davis, he also served as President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. George worked for the University of California for 40 years and served as 4-H Youth Advisor and then administrator for the Agricultural Extension Service. He served in many roles during his career in the Extension Service and was a very effective leader.

For many years, George was an active Kiwanis Club member in San Bernardino, CA. He also served on the Board of Directors for his homeowners association in Long Beach, CA

After retirement from the University, George enjoyed hiking and traveling. His crowning hiking achievement was to conquer Mt. Fuji in Japan. He also enjoyed running and participated in one full marathon and many half marathons.

George was married for 43 years to Sandra B. Rendell. George has three children, two daughters in California and one son in Cincinnati Ohio.

Services will be private. Gifts in memory of George may be made to the University of California 4-H program.
