Born the eldest son of the late Charles and Ora Green in Memphis, TN and affectionately known as Junior, Charles was a beloved father, grandfather and brother. He was a proud alumnus of Mitchell High School’s Class of ’68, where he excelled in academics and athletics, building friendships along the way that would last a lifetime. He dreamed of playing basketball collegiately, but was forced to put those dreams on hold when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. After serving bravely in Vietnam as a member of the 101st Airborne Division, he returned home bearing the wounds of war—both visible and unseen.
Never one to be easily deterred, Charles enrolled at LeMoyne-Owen College where he was able to fulfill his dream of playing college basketball. He also joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., embodying its values of academic excellence, brotherhood and service. Upon graduating in 1982 with a degree in Economics, he relocated to Los Angeles, CA to begin a career in banking.
He leaves to cherish his memory three children: Tiffany Green of Memphis, TN; DeAnn Green of Memphis, TN and Charles Green III of Rancho Dominguez, CA; three granddaughters—Kaori, Kerrigan and Marley—who brought pure joy to his life everyday; loving brothers and sisters; a host of nieces and nephews; extended family and friends and his devoted, personal caregiver, Ms. Shemika Brown.
Though Charles is no longer with us in body and will be missed dearly, his kind spirit, laughter and wisdom will be a lasting legacy, forever remembered.
Memorial services with Military Funeral Honors will commence on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
