Yoli was a decisive woman who liked things done her way. She was born on Thursday, June 18, 1959, in the Town of Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and on Sunday, December 8, 2024, Yoli made the decision to peacefully leave Metastatic Breast Cancer behind and welcome God’s warm embrace.
Yoli was a young and energetic mother who grew up in Northwest Indiana, later relocating to San Antonio, Texas. She earned an associate’s degree in nursing, and a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University. She found her vocation as a teacher at the School City of East Chicago, the Northside Independent School District, and the School of Excellence in Education.
Yoli treated Breast Cancer for two years and then lived with Metastatic Breast Cancer for almost ten years. Throughout her life, she found great delight in receiving roses, wearing pretty dresses or business skirts, and expanding her high heels collection. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and cleaning her home at odd hours of the night while listening to her favorite songs. She enjoyed puzzles, card games, and cultivating her Barbie, Coca-Cola, and Clark Gable memorabilia. Yoli was an active member of the Northwest Indiana Soccer League for many years where she coached the wildly successful Hessville Monarchs Girls Soccer Team while actively participating in the Hessville Women’s Soccer Team.
One of her final comments was how proud she is of her children and how blessed her life has been. She leaves behind a caring and devoted husband and partner of nearly 50 years, Sergio F. Mendoza, and their five loving and selfless children: Sergio Mendoza (Lisa Velazquez), Abigail Mendoza, Ulysses L. Mendoza (Mellisa Suarez), Yolanda Y. Mendoza (Gordon Scott), Carlos-Alberto J. Mendoza (Eva Stein). She is preceded in death by her father: Nicolas Carrera; mother: Melida Villarreal; brothers: Manuel and Nicolas Jr.; and granddaughter: Isabella. Yoli often commented on how much she will miss watching her twelve grandchildren grow up: Reyna, Kaleb, Corbin, Logan, Gaby, Ashten, Levi, Judah, Xavier, Titus, Orion, Elion, and five great-grandchildren: Ezra, Theo, Jacob, Amelia, and baby girl Cervantes. She leaves behind five sisters: Lulu, Anna, Belle, Susie, Cynthia, and one brother: Nick; as well as many nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Yoli has requested no funeral service, donations, or flowers. She only asks that you donate the precious gift of time to your own families and instead buy yourselves flowers in remembrance of her. YOU ARE FOREVER LOVED.
