William Jack Tibbett passed away on July 19, 2017, following a valiant and courageous battle with lung cancer. Jack was born on May 21, 1939 to William Grant Tibbett and Eva Sampley Tibbett in Tulare, California. Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Sylvia Comaduran Tibbett, three daughters Sylvia Tibbett Keller and husband Dean, Jackie Tibbett, and Sara Tibbett; seven grandchildren Josh Keller (Mary), Amber Keller Hughes (Jim), Heather Keller Silva (Daniel), Lisa Keller, Daniel Perez, Demi Perez, Scarlett Tibbett and seven great-grandchildren.
Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force at 17 years old and began his career as a fire fighter. After his term in the Air Force he became a Civil Service fireman. Jack enjoyed a decorated career and was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades. He was the Assistant Fire Chief at Rickenbacker AFB, Ohio and Vandenburg AFB, California and Fire Chief at Castle AFB, California, Laughlin AFB, Texas and Randolph AFB, Texas. After his retirement from Civil Service, he continued his career with the State of Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
Jack loved life and his family. He would begin each day with an early morning walk and was dedicated to keeping himself fit. Part of his fitness regimen included the maintenance of his yard. Jack was known around Live Oak for his immaculate and well-kept lawn. His three daughters were the "apples of his eyes" and pride and joy. Often times Jack could be found cheering on his grandson at football games or teaching his grandchildren life-long skills.
Chief Tibbett was a man of integrity and dedication, but his greatest quality was compassion. He was always available for his family day or night and never refused to lend a helping hand. He was truly the epitome of a husband, father, grandfather and fire fighter. We our blessed to have had him in our lives. We love you forever, until we meet again...
His family will have a private celebration of his life in a few weeks.
