William Charles Johnson

Maj William "Bill" Charles Johnson (Ret) was born on June 12, 1954, to Dr William T Johnson and Barbara L Tate Johnson. Due to his father's position in the Air Force, he traveled with his family through Europe and the USA in his childhood, finally settling in San Antonio, TX.

He attended Robert E Lee High School, in San Antonio, graduating in 1972, and was accepted to the US Air Force Academy. After graduating with a triple Bachelors in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences in 1976, he accepted a commission and continued on to become a B-52D pilot for the Air Force. He received his Masters in Operational Research Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1984.

In 1978, Bill met the love of his life, Robin D Coley in Fort Worth, TX. They married on February 17, 1979, and welcomed a daughter (Megan E Johnson Salisbury) in 1981, and a son (Kyle F Johnson) in 1984.

After working at Strategic Air Command Headquarters in Omaha, NE, Bill was transferred and worked as an Analyst for the Air Force at the War Gaming Center at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL. He also worked as an educator for University of Nebraska in Omaha, NE, and Troy State University in Montgomery, AL.

After 18 years in the Air Force, Bill learned he needed heart surgery. Enduring a 6-vessel bypass surgery in November of 1993, he retired from service in 1994. The family then moved back to San Antonio, TX. He didn't stop with that retirement, and continued to teach in both High School (Fox Tech) and College settings (St Phillips Community College) for many years. He also worked as a Data Recovery Computer Technician for AlphaCom Computer Services for many years.

Bill passed away after a long illness on June 10th, 2026. He is survived by his mother, 3 sisters, 1 brother, his lovely wife, his biological children, his son-in-law, 16 friend-adopted children, adopted grandchildren, and many many friends.

Bill is remembered as a loving husband and father, grandfather, brother, son, pilot, mathematical analyst, teacher, confidant, girl scout leader, boy scout leader, computer technician, tutor, weaver, lover of tomatoes and strawberries, and most importantly, friend.

Services are to be held at Roy Akers Funeral Chapels on July 25, 2026. Visitation to start at 1pm, with Military Honors by the Air Force at 2:30pm. Rosary led by Monsignor Fater to follow.
