Wayne Alan Dent of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the age of 68. He was born on May 31, 1956 and grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He loved spending summers with his cousins and brother Clyde, in Laredo, TX, fishing in Lake Casa Blanca and also at the Coast in Port Aransas, TX. He also spent time with his grandmother, Lottie Dent, on her farm near Knox City in Northeastern Missouri, where he learned all about growing plants, raising livestock, caring for her chickens and fishing in her large stock pond.
Wayne graduated from John Marshall High School in 1974, in San Antonio, TX, and afterwards worked with his mother, Teresa Zuniga-Dent, and his father, Clyde William Dent, Sr., for many years at the family's nursery business. Over the past 45 plus years, Wayne grew the 7-acre family business to be one of the premier Palm & plant Nurseries in San Antonio. He specialized in all kinds of palm trees, hence the nursery name of "Palm Buddha".
He was very active in the community and donated many plants to local organizations, and he had a passion for the fabulous local Buddhist Temple, Lien Hoa, and became good friends with Buddhist Master Thay Thien, and all things peaceful and calm. He loved building sanctuary settings for clients with plants, water features, wind chimes and bird habitats.
He enjoyed taking trips to Colorado and the Texas Coast with his son, Alan Dent, and his grandkids, Zowie and Zayne. He also loved visiting his brother, Clyde Dent, Jr., and wife, Stacey, in Portland, OR, especially to enjoy the cool Oregon summers. He appreciated living next door to his sister, Rose and her husband, Dan Ryan, and visiting with his sister, Shelly Shea & Steve Schuleter, both in SA & at the former family ranch in Leakey, TX.
He was glad to have his sister, Shelly (Zuniga-Dent) in town in San Antonio, and created beautiful landscapes for Shelly & Steve Schluter, for their home in the Dominion & also beautiful landscapes for his cousins Sarita & Angie.
One of Wayne's famous relatives is Lester Dent author of the "Doc Savage" novels. "Doc Savage" is a fictional character who appeared in American pulp magazines in the 1930's and 1940's. Marvel Comics editor, Stan Lee, credited the "Doc Savage" novels as being the forerunner to modern day Super Heros. Quite a legacy!!!
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde William Dent, and Teresa Zuniga-Dent, and his grandparents and many beloved Aunts, Uncles and cousins. He is survived by his son, Alan William Douglas Dent and his grandchildren Zowie and Zayne Dent, and his siblings Clyde William (Zuniga) Dent, Rose (Zuniga-Dent) Ryan and Shelly (Zuniga-Dent) Shea, and his nieces and nephews, as well as his Aunts, Uncles and cousins from his Zuniga and Dent family clans.
The family would like to thank the Methodist Hospital Emergency Room Doctor, Enrique Ortiz, and the staff at Ignite Medical Spa, especially his cousin, nurse Zachery, for the care and compassion they showed our loved Wayne in his final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a "Celebration of Life" on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 3:00 pm at 6075 Heath Rd, San Antonio, TX 78250, street parking is available.
