A Vietnam Veteran, Victor Don Barber, served his country with distinction. During his 20-year career as a member of the US Army Signal Corps, he received awards not only for his personal bravery, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, but also for his leadership, the Meritorious Service Medal. After retirement he returned to his childhood passion, natural history. Throughout the ensuing decades he focused on the wonders of nature. With generous support from his mother Helen Lucille, he curated over 7,000 items: from minerals to fossils to sea shells. Relying on his skill as a cryptologist and his talent as an artist, he created the “Treasures Of The Earth.” Shortly before passing, he donated his extensive collection to the Education Service Center-Region 20 in San Antonio. A loving brother, he is survived by his sister, Judith Kay, of Dallas, as well as nephew Patrick, niece Karen, and a few cousins.
