With deep love and heavy hearts, we share the passing of Thomas Lozano, a devoted husband, cherished father, and grandfather, who passed away peacefully on April 17th, surrounded by his loving family. He was 81.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Thomas lived a life rooted in service, faith, and family. His service journey began with a commitment to his country, serving in the U.S. Army. He continued as a Randolph Air Force Base civil servant and as a Bexar County Reserve Sheriff’s Deputy. He later built a distinguished 22-year career with the U.S. Border Patrol, from which he ultimately retired with commendation.
Thomas sought out special assignments in the Border Patrol, working in BORTAC and the Horse Patrol. His most cherished assignment was his time as a canine handler, side by side with his steadfast partner, Kimbo, which he often spoke of with fondness and pride.
Thomas will be remembered for how he lived: with a fierce love for his family, an open hand to help others, and a twinkle in his eye that revealed his playful and endearing quirks. He loved Motown, new cars, and road trips.
He shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with his wife and best friend, Juanita Lozano. Together they raised four children — Linda (Doug), Thomas (Erika), Rick (Angela), and Dave (Robin) — who carry forward his values, his humor, and his unwavering love.
Thomas was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren, each of whom he adored and supported with pride. He was also known to be quite fond of his two grandcats.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 am on May 8th at St. Helena Catholic Church, 14714 Edgemont Street in San Antonio. A procession will depart the church for internment at Ft. Sam Houston, immediately followed by a reception and Celebration of Life at the Witte Museum, 3801 Broadway.
All who knew and loved him are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
Thomas Lozano’s life was a blessing, his legacy is one of love, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
