Terrolynn Beth McCandless

Terry was born to Walter and Theresa Voges in El Campo, Texas. She was the first of 6 children, Terry, Walter Jonathan, Merry, Madeline, Wyatt and Kerry. They lived primarily in Austin and San Antonio. Terry graduated in 1966 from Harlandale High School in San Antonio having played the clarinet in the marching band for 4 years. She met Mickey McCandless in 1970 and they married August 7, 1971. That marriage lasted almost 52 years in partnership with the joy of 4 children, Tammy (James) G. Stephenson, Micah (Tanya) T. McCandless, Madison (Jennifer) T. McCandless, Mitchell T. McCandless, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Terry was passionate about people, justice, art, being creative, learning/teaching and her faith in God. She began her work career developing procedure manuals for many office processes. She ended her working life engaged in leadership development for the San Antonio/Las Misiones District of the United Methodist Church. She developed many friends through the years, talked with anyone and everyone, and used her tenacity, humor, directness and passion to make a difference in the world. She will be missed by all who knew her as she joins the “great cloud of witnesses…who have run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Romans 12:1-2)

A Memorial Service of Celebration of Life will be held on July 8, 2023 at Northern Hills United Methodist Church, San Antonio, Reverend Lupina Stewart presiding. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Northern Hills UMC, American Cancer Society, Thrivewell Cancer Foundation or your local faith community.
