Steve was born on August 15, 1951, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Roland and Lorilla (French) Hook.
Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Texas, where he spent the rest of his life living in communities across West, South, and Central Texas.
He graduated from Fort Stockton High School in 1969 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Texas A&M University in 1973.
In 1978, Steve married Marty Avary, and together they welcomed three children: Scott, Becky, and Angela.
Following college, Steve began his career in the oil and gas industry, where he quickly established himself as a talented salesman. In 1982, the family moved to Corpus Christi, where he purchased a gas compression company before founding American Compressor, Inc., which he successfully owned and operated for many years.
After retiring in 2016, Steve settled in Canyon Lake, where he embraced the slower pace and beauty of the Texas Hill Country.
Above all, Steve loved being a father. He coached countless youth sports teams, never missed an opportunity to cheer from the sidelines, and taught his children the value of hard work, good sportsmanship, and the pride that comes with giving it your all.
Steve will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, unforgettable stories, and remarkable ability to make people laugh. He loved great food, cherished time spent around the table with family and friends, had a special fondness for cats, and never lost his appreciation for beautiful automobiles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Lorilla Hook, and his sister, Elaine (Hook) Lee.
He is survived by his children, Scott, Becky, and Angela Hook, their mother, Marty Avary, and his beloved cat, Snickers.
Steve leaves behind a legacy of laughter, generosity, perseverance, and love. His family will forever treasure the memories he created, the lessons he taught, and the example he set.
