Born June 26, 1934, in Emporia, Kansas, Stan lived a rich and full life. He met the love of his life, Norma Dee, at Splendora High School. After graduating in 1953, he joined the U.S. Army and, not long after, married Norma on September 14 of that same year. They spent the next 71 years side by side.
Stan served with pride during the Korean War and enjoyed a long military career that took him and Norma around the world. Together, they built a life full of adventure — living in places like Chicago, Illinois; El Paso, Texas; Vicenza, Italy; Bethel, Ohio; Hazlet, New Jersey; Homestead, Florida; and Germany. After retiring from the Army in 1974, they returned to Splendora, Texas.
Stan began a second career in the furniture industry with United Interiors in Houston and later with Texas Wilson, which brought them to San Antonio — their home for nearly 40 years. He eventually retired from Wilson, closing out a long and dedicated working life.
Stan had a true passion for the outdoors, especially fishing, which was his favorite pastime. He found much enjoyment in time spent on the water with family and friends. He also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, woodworking, and spending time at Lake Fork on their land. Travel was always a part of their life, with many memorable vacations together over the years. More than anything, Stan deeply loved his children and grandchildren and took a genuine interest in each of their lives. He was always eager to listen, encourage, and celebrate their accomplishments.
He is preceded in death by his father Percy Inkster, mother Mary Martin and stepfather E.M.(Red) Martin; his brother, Bob Inkster; and sisters, Ann Thurman and Alice Stubbs.
Stan is survived by his loving wife, Norma; their children Ron Inkster (Annette), Roxie Scharer, Rick Inkster (Sonia), and Rhonda Inkster; as well as grandchildren Dustin Inkster (Shelley), Drake Inkster (Stanci), Jennifer Inkster, Cody Inkster, Tallon Dillard (Deanna), Andie Best (Shawn), Tristan Dillard (Marcela), Drew Inkster (Ellie), Jacy Olivares, Jaqueline Pace, and Jolie Pace. He also leaves behind 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and countless friends and extended family who were blessed to know him.
Stan’s legacy is one of strength, kindness, and deep love for his family. He will be missed dearly and remembered always.
