It is with great sadness that we, John and Trish McGarrity, announce the passing of our son, Sean Patrick McGarrity of San Antonio, TX on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the age of 32. He was born on May 11, 1992, in San Antonio, TX. At birth, problems revealed that Sean’s brain had not completely formed. This gave him a life that would ask so much more of him than most people deserve but he responded with great resilience and a smile as big as the day is long. Everyone agreed that he had the absolute best laugh! One of his favorite things to do was listen to music. He always really loved the Sillyville songs. He would listen to that over and over and never stop laughing! Even though he couldn’t communicate with words, he would communicate with that laugh. He was a true inspiration to the many people that crossed his path and a source of great love for our entire family.
Sean was preceded in death by his sister Melissa McGarrity, his grandfather John J. McGarrity and his grandfather Lawrence Burke. He is survived by his father John P. McGarrity, his mother Trish Burke McGarrity, his sister Jordan McGarrity (Nicholas DeCleene) and his brother Michael McGarrity; his grandmothers Shirley McGarrity and Beverly Burke; his uncles William McGarrity (Dawn) and John Burke (Kevin Janasak); his aunts Mary McGarrity Soto, Tessa McGarrity Lysak, Nancy Burke Martin (Joe), and Karen Burke Westerman (Duane); his cousins Meghan McGarrity, Conor McGarrity, Liam McGarrity, Max Westerman (Meghan), Nicholas Westerman (Alexa), Will Westerman, Jeremy Martin and Jacob Martin.
We would like to thank the many, many family members and friends over the years that helped to care for Sean to enable us to do some traveling. Also, a special thanks to the staff and nurses from Special Kids Care who have helped to care for Sean, daily, over the last 18 years – especially Mandy, Michael, Barbara, Tony, Suzy and Norma. To the staff in the Wilford Hall and BAMC emergency rooms, pediatric ICUs and adult ICUs that have provided great care for him through his trials of the last 25 years. Especially to the nursing staff of the BAMC MICU who cared for him so lovingly in his last few days on earth. Finally, to Dr Rodriguez and his staff, particularly Julie, who have so patiently and lovingly cared for him over the last few years.
There will be a rosary and visitation at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at the Shrine of St Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (3843 Bulverde Parkway, San Antonio TX, 78259).
The funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Shrine of St Padre Pio of Pietrelcina with a reception immediately following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers you may donate in Sean’s name to the Shrine of St Padre Pio of Pietrelcina building fund, the church community that has loved on Sean for the past 24 years. You may use the link below to donate online.
