Scott Allen Walkup, age 50, passed away Suddenly on May 07, 2017, at his home in Windcrest, TX. He was born in Santa Monica, California to Kenneth and June Lain Walkup. He graduated from Posidon High School and attended Santa Monica College. Scott is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth C. Walkup. He is survived by his loving wife of five years, Sandra (following a seven year courtship); his stepdaughters Tonishea, Persha and Mercedes Dardy; his mother, June Lain Walkup; brother, Ronald John Rossi; niece, Angie Rossi; and nephew, John Paul Rossi. He also leaves behind his beloved companion dog, Rudy. He was much loved and will be missed by those who knew him well. Scott was a member of Maranaha Bible Church, where he was baptized.
He was a proud Marine. Scott served his country in the Marine Corp from August 1987 until June 1991, spending the last six months of his service participating in Operation Desert Storm, living most of the time there in a cave he dug, manning an outpost. He learned various building trades while working for his father's company in California and became adept in many aspects of construction, as well as office building maintenance. His wife and mother particularly miss his loving ways, funny stories and how he was always willing and able to perform the many "honey-dos' around their homes from tiling floors to building fences.
Scott was physically active; he loved sports and was good at most of them. At age five, when he first had swimming lessons, he started diving by the third lesson, and at 14, he had a full day off skiing lessons and began going down the slalom course before the days end. He excelled at volleyball and basketball, which he played throughout his school years and the rest of his life thereafter. He had just begun to master golf in the last couple of years. He was an avid Star Trek fan and sported a Klingon tattoo on his shoulder. Being a child of the late 60's, he was a lover of rock-n-roll bands, having seen most of them during his years in California. Conversely, He also could spend hours listening to Andrea Bocelli.
Interment will be on Friday, May 19, 2017, at 10:45am, Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
The following poem was written by Scott's youngest stepdaughter:
Scott
It hurts me so
To see you leave
A piece of me left when you did too
My peace was gone but gained by you
You were, you are my comfort
To home you go for slumber
As hard as it is to see you go
Your hands grew tired from the ropes
Free, although with me you remain
We lost a soldier who could stand through the rain
He resides in heaven, in bliss, no tears, no pain
Mercedes ("Buckwheat") Dardy
To My Husband Scott:
Babe I miss you so much
I love you then, now and forever.
I was so blessed to be your wife.
I'm missing your storytelling, smile
and the way you light up a room
with hope and laughter. Babe, I don't know how to live without you
so I'm going to try to live through your wonderful memories and your love for me.
You loved the girls and me unconditional and I am forever grateful for that.
Rest in peace my husband AKA my angel forever and always your black queen
Sandra Walkup.
