Samuel L. Johnson

He was born March 6th 1929 to Adelene & Samuel L. Johnson Sr. in Vernon, Texas.

Sam graduated from Vernon High School in 1947 and went on to attend Texas Tech University until 1950 when he was called out of college for active duty with the Air Force during the Korean War for the next 4 years.

Sam spent the next 26 years teaching in the Air Force civil service and graduated college from Midwestern University with a Business/Accounting Degree. He managed the Medical Arts operations and had various business interests in Wichita Falls that also included Oil & Gas Interests and exploration in the Electra and Vernon Areas.

Sam and Katherine White were married in 1951 in Wichita Falls and had 2 Children Kathy and Jay.

After the early loss of Katherine, he met Mary “Bebe” Moore back in his hometown of Vernon, who had also lost her husband and they spent the next 25 years together.

Sam and Bebe Moore were married in 1994 in Vernon and in 2000, Sam and Bebe moved and retired to Kerrville, Texas.

Sam was preceded in Death by his parents, his wife Katherine (1991) daughter Kathy (1996) sister Mary Alice Johnson (1999)and Brother James L. “Rocky” Johnson (2003)

Sam is survived by his loving wife Mary “Bebe “ Johnson, son Jay & wife Martha Johnson of Austin, sister in law Anne Houtchens of Lake Kiowa, Grandchildren Courtney & Jim Cummings-Burkburnett , Matthew McBride– Dallas and Katie Elmore- Lubbock, son in law Billy & wife Christina Moore of Houston & daughter in law Elise Moore of Cambridge MA.

The family wants to thank the wonderful Caregivers and Hospice for all of the loving care they provided to this strong kind man.

Services and visitation will be held Saturday February 3, 2018 at 12:45pm at the Eastview Cemetery in Vernon. An afternoon visitation and meal will be held in Wichita Falls at the Pioneer Restaurant on Maplewood.
