After a battle with cancer, Rosalene Scott Gooch (Scottie) died on March 8, 2018 in Converse, TX. at the age of 72. She leaves behind her husband of 48 years, James Gooch; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Angel Gooch; her granddaughter Jordan Gooch; and her sister Ernestine Meyer. Scottie is also survived by her loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a host of long-time friends.
Scottie was born on March 26, 1945, to father, Joe Bailey Scott, and mother, Thelma Mae Scott, who predeceased her. After her dad died, she was raised by her grandparents H.E. White (dad) and Lillie Mae White (mom) on their farm with her sister.
Scottie married James Gooch on March 7, 1970. Later James joined the military, they bore a son, and began their travels. They were stationed in Germany and traveled from country to country when on vacation. Throughout her life she worked as a receptionist and manager in various fields. They eventually settled in the San Antonio area where she was highly active in her son’s education, serving as PTA President at his middle school and high school. For the last 15 years she worked as a tax preparer, trainer, and manager for Jackson Hewitt.
Scottie was an exceptional mother with a not so secret love of romance novels and arts and crafts. She enjoyed spending time at S.L.E.W. events, a support group for women cancer warriors, her friends at Jackson Hewitt, and her family. When diagnosed with cancer she remained dedicated to her work, her family and friends. She remained brave and tenacious in her fight while matter-of-factually preparing her family for life without her.
Scottie arranged to be cremated. Her ashes will be interred at Ft. Sam Houston. A memorial service will be held at Ft. Sam Houston on July 13th at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to S.L.E.W at www.slewwellness.org
