Reverend Ronald Stephen Boucher passed away October 24, 2017. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Dick Lewis Boucher and Helen Claydine (Houston) Boucher. He attended schools in North Kansas City and Shawnee, graduating from Shawnee Mission West in 1968. He joined the U. S. Navy on September 9, 1968 and retired as a CTI1 on January 31, 1989. He traveled widely through the western Pacific, enjoying the opportunity to learn about many diverse cultures. Ron married Yoletta Haunani Akau on May 23, 1970 in Kamuela, Hawaii. They had two children: son Dick Lewis Boucher II and daughter Stephenie Malia Boucher. They later divorced and he married Virginia Louise Baker on December 27, 1990 in Fremont, California. He moved to San Antonio in September 1990 and lived here until his death. After arriving in San Antonio, Ron earned an AAS in Mortuary Science from San Antonio College in 1994 and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Universal Life Church Seminary in 2007. He also formed and performed with the Southern Shine Band, producing an original song “There’s No Snow in San Antonio.” He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother Clelia Muriel (Stroud) Boucher as well as his great-granddaughter Kayvon Deondrelay Malia Gray. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Virginia; son Dick and wife Trish of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; daughter Stephenie and husband Toa Eva of San Antonio; sisters Sandra Beck (Howard) and Sheryl Horwedel (Michael); step-brother Alfred Strohm; grandchildren Ryan Boucher Bodnar, Dylan Boucher Bodnar, Chevelle Peter, Ronald Boucher II, Ruby Boucher-Eva, Christine Boucher-Eva, Toa Eva Jr; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. For 67 years this loving husband, brother, father and grandfather cared more about others than about himself. He devoted 20 years to the country in the US Navy. He worked in a variety of fields, sang a zillion songs, and cared for everyone he met. He was a musician, a mortician, and a travel agent. He was proud to be a Native American and a Mason. He loved his family, his friends and his pets. He didn’t want to leave us, but was ready for the rest. So while we cry for ourselves, don’t cry for him. He has merely sailed over the horizon where we can’t see him, but his soul thinks of us often and we can be sure we’ll see him again one day. Come join us to celebrate his life at Friendship Park, 5745 Binz Engleman Road, Kirby TX, on November 5, 2017 from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. We will have a brief memorial service plus a chance to share stories and a potluck meal with others who loved this man. In lieu of flowers, his wishes were for contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society so that someday there might be a cure.
