Roberto Ruiz Salinas, 92, passed away on March 3, 2025. Born on November 4, 1932 in San Antonio, he was a devoted husband to Irma and a loving father to his children Olga, Rosa, Ana, Blanca, Roberto and Marisela and his step-children Monica and Lucio. He was the oldest son of Octavio and Alicia Salinas and brother to Rogelio, Jean, Rosalia and Raymundo. He lived most of his life in Laredo Texas where he had an extraordinary life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. He expressed his love of God, family and country through his civic engagement.
Roberto was a proud military serviceman having served four years in the Marine Corps including 1 year in Korea. Upon his return, he continued to contribute to the business and civic development of Laredo and joined the family meat packing business founded by his father in 1930. The company, later known as Laredo Packing Company, was a leading employer in this region and was recognized by Governor Preston Smith when presented with the prestigious Texas Industrial Expansion Award for its contributions to the Texas Economy. His civic commitment continued as he served as a Laredo City Councilman.
He was one of Laredo’s pioneers in residential and commercial real estate development. As an active member of the Laredo community, he was well aware of its economic and personal needs and directed his endeavors toward the growth of South Laredo with Hill Top Farm, Ltd. Developing Los Presidentes and Las Americas subdivisions.
Roberto Salinas was active in the development of Royal Joint Venture; UNITEC Industrial Park and S.L.L.P. and S.L.L.C; South Laredo Industrial Park. He expanded his business ventures to oil and gas exploration with Lobo Resources Ltd. fulfilling a lifelong dream sparked by his love of the classic movie Giant.
The family’s desire to improve the quality of life for Laredoans led to collaboration with United Independent School District to build the Alicia Ruiz Salinas and Octavio Salinas Elementary schools to serve the students of south Laredo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Octavio and Alicia Salinas, brothers Rogelio and Raymundo Salinas, daughter Olga A. MacGregor and grandson Joseph Daniel Ramirez.
He is survived by his wife, Irma M. Salinas, his children, Rosa Ramirez (Beto), Ana Salinas (Peter), Blanca Salinas (Victor), Roberto A. Salinas, Marisela S. Jacaman, Monica L. Morales (Arturo) and Lucio J. Cantu (Edna), his sisters Jean Salinas and Rosalia Salinas Shurin (Paul), several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 26th from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home (910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas).
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 27th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (20523 Huebner Rd. San Antonio, Texas) at 10:00 AM followed by a celebration of his life.
Roberto Ruiz Salinas will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on March 27th, 2025 at 2:00 PM. We invite you to join us as we celebrate his life and service to our country.
