He was born and raised in Colorado, the oldest son of Val and Gwen Rossmeisl. He graduated from Douglas County High School in 1950 and the University of Denver in 1954. In 1955 he joined the United States Air Force and after completing flying training he was assigned to Laredo AFB as a flight instructor until 1960. He then attended the Air Force Institute of Technology at the University of Colorado where he received a Masters Degree in Industrial Production.
Next he was stationed in Okinawa at Kadena AFB from 1961 to 1964, Luke AFB in1964 where he trained in the F-100 jet aircraft and then Holloman AFB for training in the F-4 jet aircraft in 1965.
He deployed to Vietnam in 1966 where he flew 200 combat missions. In 1967 he returned from Vietnam to George AFB, California where trained pilots for Vietnam and Israeli pilots in the F-4E. In 1970, He was stationed at Luke AFB, followed by Naval War College, and an assignment at Hahn AFB, Germany as Deputy Commander of Operations. He finished his career at Langley AFB, Virginia and retired in 1981 after 26 years.
He totaled over 3,000 hours in a jet aircraft and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, one of the highest medals earned by an air force pilot. He was always proud to serve his country.
He predeceases his wife Wilma, his son Donald and wife Pam, his daughter-in-law Jane, four grand children and four great grand children, a brother, sister and sister-in-law.
A memorial service was held at Northern Hills United Methodist Church to honor his life.
