Robert (Bob) French was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Robert and Evelyn French. He spent his childhood in Atlanta and graduated from St. Andrews-Sewanee preparatory school. He was a Naval Aviator during the Korean War conflict flying Sea Planes in search and rescue while stationed in Panama, Trinidad and Key West. After the navy, he graduated from Auburn University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
He joined IBM in 1958 and spent 33 years in various sales and management positions in Tallahassee, Houston, Washington DC, Atlanta, Austin, Dallas and Jacksonville prior to retiring in 1991.
Upon retiring he volunteered with the Retired Executive Service Corps, focusing on studies for Non-profit organizations. In 2008 he became a volunteer for World Relief of Jacksonville, assisting refugees settling in the Jacksonville area.
Bob fully enjoyed life and actively stayed in touch with friends from the military, business, former neighbors and relatives. He spread joy and humor via his Google email Chipshot8.
A member of San Jose Country Club in Jacksonville, Bob was an avid tennis player winning the city senior doubles championship in 1993. Also an enthusiastic golfer, he played in the Plant Golf Group at San Jose for many years, while organizing in-state and out-of-state golf trips for the group.
He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years. Wilhelmina (Mina) and his sister, Ann Graham. He is survived by three children: son Robert S. French IV (Dana) of Pentwater, MI, daughter Dana Muhlberg (Bruce) of Boerne, Texas, son David (Judy) of Austin, Texas.
Bob had seven grandchildren, Robert and Evelyn French, Elaine and Emily Muhlberg, Sarah, Peter and Daniel French.
A private family service will be held at Christ Church Frederica on St. Simons Island, GA at a later date.
