Robert “Bob” Fitts passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 16, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jo-Ann “Jan” Fitts, and his two loving daughters Cory Fitts (Jesse Garza) and Jennifer Lee (John Lee).
Bob was a proud Texas native who was born and raised in the Bryan/College Station area. After serving in the USAF as a flight mechanic, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he met and married the love of his life, Jan, and later received a Bachelor of Arts degree. An avid painter, he went on to receive a Master of Art degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Known for his profound silliness, Bob was a man of many talents and passions. In addition to creating art, he was skilled at making and fixing just about everything else. This propensity led him to a 20 year career in the Fabrication Department of The Institute of Texan Cultures in San Antonio. In his free time, and during his retirement, he devoted countless hours to the restoration of classic cars and motorcycles. This pastime led him to many cherished friendships with likeminded individuals.
Bob was a lifelong lover of nature and wildlife. His family asks that you consider donating to an organization that supports them or planting a tree in his honor in lieu of memorial flowers.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held in September 2022 to coincide with what would have been his 80th birthday.
