Richard Edward Shafer

Richard was born and raised in Rock Island where he and Catherine (Cathy) raised their five children. He was a graduate of Alleman High School, retired from John Deere Harvester / Spreader in 1985 after 28 years, served on the Board of Christ the King Church (1967-1972), and was an active member of The Knights of Columbus.

Throughout his life, he showed great passion for music and singing, golf, gardening, Iowa football, and a cold beer. He especially enjoyed beach and lakeside vacations with his family that included board games and playing euchre well past his bedtime.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Everett and Rose, and his brothers, David and Robert. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Catherine; his five children, Tracey Oehler (husband Rick) of Solon, IA, Lisa Zaleski (husband Damon) of Naperville, IL, Scott of “world traveler”, Jennifer Dhaemers of San Antonio, TX, and Michael (wife Heather) of Oxford, MI, as well as his 6 grandchildren - Jacklyn, Madison, Logan, Blayne, Nolan and Eden.

Per his wishes, a private memorial will be held with immediate family.
