Navorita (Nora) Garza Salinas of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the age of 87. She was born on May 25, 1936, in Benavides, Texas, where she grew up and graduated from Benavides High School in 1955.
She worked as a manager in the food services industry. After formal retirement, she worked in the nursery of a day care center.
Nora was actively involved in early morning walks, cooking, word puzzles, and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents Isidoro Garza, Sr. and Manuela Flores Garza, brother Isaac Garza, brother Jesus Garza, sister Juanita Garcia, and ex-husband Adan Salinas.
Navorita was survived by her brother Isidoro Garza, Jr. (Cristela), brother Jose Ernesto Garza, sister Maria Alicia Oliveira, her loving children: Omar Salinas (Betty), Adriana Lamar Pruit (Brett), Oscar Salinas (Laurie), Nora Gutierrez (Jesus), Robert Salinas (Nelda), Linda Simpson (Joel), and Richard Salinas. She was also survived by her beloved grandchildren: David Gutierrez, Jessica Elliott, Travis Pruit, Jennifer Pruit, Cristina Garza, Valerie Salinas, Stephen Salinas, Sydney Salinas, and Danielle Hess and 3 great grandchildren.
As a young girl she carried a photo of John Wayne in her wallet, and as an adult she had a life size cut out of George Straight that she referred to as “my George.” She cared for many children, besides her own, during her long life, beginning with David Atkinson and Michael Farmer and ending with her beloved twins, Cooper and Olivia Simmons.
The family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice with a special thanks to her Aide, Carmen, for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church, 203 Santa Rosa De Lima, Benavides, Texas, on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 6 pm. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
