Mary Margaret Monks, known lovingly to many as Meg, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, in Frederick, MD. Born in Washington, D.C. on October 26, 1942, she was the eldest of five children and the only girl.
Meg had remarkable talent and spirit as a professional equestrian, known for her dedication, skill, deep connection with horses as with all animals.
She was a woman of great faith. Graduating from Immaculata Preparatory School and earning her bachelor’s degree in education from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana.
Her passion for teaching and love of different cultures led her across the globe – guiding young minds. Meg had an adventurous heart and insatiable curiosity for the world. She built lifelong friendships wherever she went. Her boundless kindness, independent spirit, and global perspective left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her loving family in the DC area and the Pacific Northwest, her many friends from Texas, Delaware and from all over the country, plus the countless lives she touched through her teaching and travels.
Meg was many things to many people. Therefore, we would like to make this an “open” obituary.. Please share how you knew Mary Margaret (Meg), post a picture or tell a story. Together we can honor her spirit in the best way possible.
Meg requested that she be laid to rest at Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods. If you are ever near Indiana, please stop by and say hello.
Because Meg’s family and friends are spread out all over the country, we ask that you each have your own service or celebration of life for her…. Have a family meal at a Mexican restaurant in her honor, go on a road trip, plant some flowers, eat a bowl of chocolate ice cream, go for a nice long walk, or just get together or call one another to talk about Meg.
