Magdalena G. Fernandez, age 81, peacefully entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
She was born on July 23, 1941, in Nava, Coahuila, Mexico, where she grew up with her family. Magdalena was the oldest of 16 children and helped her parents raise her brothers and sisters, leaving school before she entered the fifth grade.
Later in life, her determination helped her obtain her GED and Associate’s Degree from San Antonio College. She was very proud of this accomplishment as she also worked and took care of her family at this time.
Magdalena always placed her Family before everything else. She and her husband, Jaime Fernandez, were married for 61 years. Together, they welcomed two sons into the world: Jaime Fernandez (Sharon) and Alberto Fernandez (Charity).
Magdalena worked for the San Antonio Northeast Independent School District in the cafeteria, a job she enjoyed very much for interacting with her coworkers and the children. We were all fortunate recipients of her impressive culinary skills; her homemade tamales will go down in history.
After her retirement, Magdalena and Jaime spent their time antiquing. She became very knowledgeable in the collectibles trade and loved sharing what she learned. She and her Husband conquered the Garage Sale and Auctioning Business.
Magdalena was an avid researcher and an advocate of natural and homeopathic remedies. She used that wisdom to improve the lives of her family and herself. She was a beautiful, kind, friendly, loyal, and loving person who enjoyed socializing with her family and friends, and she will be dearly missed.
Strong and courageous, Magdalena fought until the very end. We, her family, take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, dancing with the Angels in heaven, and watching over all of those she loved. Her parents, Reynaldo Garza Fernandez and Marina Ramon Aguilar, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Jaime Fernandez, her sons Jaime Fernandez and wife Sharon, Alberto Fernandez and wife Charity, grandson Eric and wife Ashley, and many brothers and sisters and their families.
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 8:38-39
