Loretta Ann Zimmermann-Herold left this world at 65 years of age on September 12, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born in God’s state...Texas, in the great city of San Antonio to Leon and Lenora Zimmermann on February 5, 1954. She had five siblings: Leona, Lorraine, Leon Jr., Larry Joe, and Linda. She is survived by her husband, Kyle, her three children: Donna, Michael, and Alison, as well as her grandchildren.
Loretta was as tough as they come. She entered into the military as part of the Women’s Army Corps, and graduated as one of the first classes of women GI’s. During this time she also qualified with the M16 rifle, which is something that she was always quick to point out when talking about her service history.
She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, nana, and aunt, among many other titles held during her life. Most importantly though, she was a friend; always the hugger, she never met a stranger in her life. Loretta was always there when you needed her. She would always call to sing happy birthday off key and off rhythm, and occasionally even on the wrong day. She loved the Cowboys, and was one of the few people brave enough to be a Dallas Mavericks fan in San Antonio. If she hadn’t heard from you in a while, she would call just to let you know she was thinking of you.
Immensely missed, but never forgotten, her memory will live on through the numerous lives that she touched. Though she may have been short in stature, the reach of her heart knew no bounds. If Loretta were here, she would want us to remember that it’s not goodbye, only see you later.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Helena Catholic Church, 14714 Edgemont St. San Antonio, TX 78247.
As per one of Loretta’s last wishes, we will be honoring her with a full military service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a date to be determined later. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please consider a donation to one of the following charitable organizations in Loretta’s memory.
