Lee Carr of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 29, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Madelle Cowan, and her daughter, Barbara Lynn Carr. She is survived by her husband, Charles Richard Carr; her son Richard; and Barbara Jean Carr; her two brothers, William and Yoanna Cowan; John Cowan; and her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She was born on January 12, 1937, in Tahoka, Texas. She attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where she graduated with a degree in Education and met her husband, Charles Richard Carr. They were married on September 6, 1958, and had two children: Richard Carr and Barbara Lynn Carr. They resided in Hollywood Park, Texas.
Lee had a long career in Education, where she was a Special Needs Teacher for Our Lady of Lake University and Judson ISD. She was the principal at Fair Meadows in Judson ISD.
Lee was a member of many organizations: she was an active member of the Sierra Club, where she was a founding member of the San Antonio group. She was a member of the Wranglers, a group that traveled across Texas to play bluegrass country music for veterans and retirement homes. She was also a member of the One on the Mountain group. They traveled nationwide to play at various festivals- most notably the National Traditional Country Music Festival.
Lee fought medical battles for many years. With each diagnosis, Lee never let it get her down. She continued to show her strength and resilience every day. Lee was a strong woman and continued to prove that throughout her life.
Lee had a huge love for music, in particular bluegrass and country music. She taught herself to play the mountain dulcimer. In 2003, Lee was the Midwest Mountain Dulcimer Champion, and in Aug of 2012, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame for National Traditional Country Music.
After retirement, Lee and her husband, Charles Richard Carr, loved to travel in their RV Bus across the US. They made many trips to Alaska, making stops to visit with friends and play music. Throughout her life, she has made many friends and is loved by all.
