Laura Roberts Epps of New Braunfels, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 13, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born on September 8, 1928 in Cabot, Arkansas and she grew up in the Little Rock and North Little Rock, Arkansas area.
Laura attended Little Rock High School and graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1946. Later she received her Associate of Arts degree from San Jacinto College in Houston, Texas.
Laura married Edward Allen Epps on December 30, 1950. They were married for 57 years until Ed’s passing in 2008.
She worked as a clerk and assistant at Employment Security Division in Little Rock, Arkansas for several years. After moving to Houston in 1969, Laura began her career with the State of Texas as a secretary. Not satisfied with that, she went back to school and got her Associates degree which allowed her to move up to a social worker and over the years, she progressed to regional Director for the Aged and Disabled in Houston, Texas.
After they retired Ed and Laura traveled the country, staying at elder hostels, and working at the YMCA in Estes Park, CO. They traveled and camped in their van often to many national parks. Laura relocated to Eden Hill Communities in 2014 in New Braunfels, Texas to be near family.
Laura was always very active with whatever church she joined, almost always in a leadership role. She served on several pastoral search committees, taught Sunday School classes, played the piano, and served in many other roles. For several years her church home was the chapel at Eden Hill, where she also led the Sunday School class. In her daily morning routine she would sit on her patio with coffee and her Bible.
Laura was preceded in death, by her husband, Edward Epps, and by her parents William Hiram Roberts and Sylvia Ruth Roberts, and by her brothers Edgar Roberts of Mesa Arizona, Thomas Roberts of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Carl Roberts of North Little Rock, Arkansas.
Laura is survived by her son, Don Epps, and daughter in law, Janice Epps, of New Braunfels, and grandchildren; Christopher Epps (Kati) of Celina, Tx, Brittany Rodriguez (Jay) of New Braunfels, as well as five great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the entire staff and residents of Eden Communities for the love and friendship shown over her time there. A special thanks goes to the staff in the assisted living unit and the hospice care group, for their care for Laura in her final days. Special thanks is given to Rev. Sarah Currie, Chaplain at Eden Hill, for her love and support of Laura and for the family.
