Johnny Lafayette Conner

Obituary of Johnny Lafayette Conner

Johnny Lafayette Conner, age 85, of San Antonio, passed away in the late morning hours of July 26, 2024, at his home, in the care of his beloved wife. Johnny grew up in Guild, Tennessee and Florence, Alabama to the late Edias Martin and Ethel Mae Hale Conner. He enjoyed his family and especially his brothers, the mountains and Tennessee River. Johnny graduated from Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama where he enjoyed sports. Following high school, Johnny attended the University North Alabama at Florence where he was in ROTC. Following graduation, Johnny joined the US Army and became a Lieutenant the next day.

Johnny married Brenda J. Thrasher on November 3, 1963, in Martinsville, VA, after a courtship that began in Florence, Alabama. Together they shared the next 60 plus years of raising children and grandchildren and living a lifetime of memories.

Johnny was in the Army Medical Service Corp, serving for 30 years and earning the rank of Colonel. He retired in 1991. During his service, Johnny saw time in Korea, Vietnam Nam and Germany, as well as many military posts in the USA. When he retired, he was Chief of Staff of the Health Services Command. In 1991, Johnny was promoted to the Director of Clinics at UTHSC, San Antonio, TX.

His medals in the military were several and included Legion of Merit (3rdOak Leaf Cluster)

Bronze Star, Meritorius Service Medal, and Vietnam Nam medals.

Following retirement, Johnny enjoyed playing much golf with his great retired friends! Johnny and his wife, Brenda loved traveling the US and world.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Edias Conner, and by his brothers, Bill Conner and Cecil Lamar Conner. He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda; one daughter, Kimberly L. Day, and husband Mark; one son, Johnny L. Conner, Jr.; grandsons, Kyle Day, and wife Kate, and Adam Day; one granddaughter, Madison Day; and by one great-grand daughter, Kora Day.
