John Howard Worrich, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, at the age of 85 in San Antonio, Texas. Born on October 19, 1939, in Easton, Pennsylvania, to John Franklin and Marian Ann Worrich, he lived a life full of love and was dedicated to his family and community.
John was an all-around athlete in his youth, excelling in multiple sports before coming to San Antonio to play basketball at Trinity University. It was at Trinity that he met the love of his life, Barbara “Bobbie” McDermott Worrich. The two shared 59 beautiful years of marriage and built a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep devotion to family. Together, they raised three children: Melissa Worrich, Todd (Audra) Worrich, and Scott (Leigh Ann) Worrich.
Affectionately known as “Pappy,” John was a beloved grandfather to his eight grandchildren: Emily Jane Moran, Thomas Patrick Worrich, Landon Charles Worrich, Ethan John Moran, Lauren Elizabeth Worrich, Travis Charles Worrich, Brody Andrew Worrich, and Alexis Grace Worrich. Whether cheering them on at their sporting events, sharing stories, or playing cards, John’s presence in their lives was immeasurable. His warmth and kindness extended beyond his own family, and many who knew him through his children and grandchildren lovingly called him “Pappy” as well.
John was a hardworking and dedicated businessman, who started his career as an entrepreneur and later enjoyed his time managing tennis clubs in San Antonio. Through his work, he built lasting relationships and touched countless lives with his kindness and generosity. John loved watching all sports and was a big fan of the San Antonio Spurs, the Houston Astros, and the Texas A&M Aggies. He enjoyed watching games and celebrating big wins with his family and friends. Above all, his greatest joy came from time spent with family, whether it was celebrating birthdays, milestones, or simply being present with the people he loved.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin and Marian Ann Worrich. He is survived by his devoted wife Bobbie, his children and grandchildren, his loving sister Clara (Eston) Morgan, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Intensive Care Unit at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital for the care and compassion they provided during John’s final days, both to him and to his entire family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the All Saints Chapel at TMI Episcopal School. Family and friends are invited to gather and honor John’s incredible life and the legacy of love he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John’s honor to the Amyloidosis Research Consortium (arci.org).
John’s was a life well lived, and his impact will endure for generations to come. We will miss you Pappy.
