John Milton McMillen, Jr. met his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the age of 76. He was born January 12, 1943 in Fort Worth, Texas to John and Mary McMillen. His memorial service is at 10:00 Saturday, June 8 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 6914 Wurzbach Rd. in San Antonio.
John was raised on a farm near Keller, Texas, and played football for the Keller Indians. He remained close to his 1961 classmates and attended reunions through 2018. He attended Texas Tech University, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He joined the U. S. Navy, serving as a lieutenant aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bennington during the Vietnam War. His civilian career was devoted to general construction. He most recently worked for Associated Concrete Contractors and his long-time friend Will Kapavik.
John traveled twice to the Holy Land, most recently in 2018 with his brother Bill. His trips reinforced his profound love of Jesus Christ. John kept daily devotional journals, and his home was filled with many Bibles, Christian symbols and portraits. He tithed to several San Antonio churches and supported numerous charitable organizations.
John is survived by his two sons, Michael and Tate; his three brothers, Bill of Anthem, Arizona, Carlton and wife Marilyn of Amarillo, Texas, and Andy and wife Laurie of San Antonio, Texas. He also had five nephews; Jeffrey, Carlton, Jr., John Lawrence, Josh and Jake. The family also wishes to acknowledge his beloved friend and companion Marika McMillen.
John leaves a legacy of a love for Jesus, a huge heart, a giving spirit and an abiding care for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to your church or favorite charity.
