Bruce began both of the most important relationships in his life in Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. It was there he committed his life to Jesus Christ and laid the foundation for the man of faith he became. He also noticed a cute freshman girl in the cafeteria named Polly Dee who became the love of his life and the mother of his children. They were married for 60 years.
He is survived by his wife Polly Dee, his brother David, his son Paul, and his beloved grandchildren: Jacob, Seth, Ethan, Maddy, Jackson, Justin, and Hartley. He was preceded in death by his son Tim, who passed away in 2021 due to Covid. Though Bruce carried this deep loss, his faith remained strong, and he found comfort in knowing they would be reunited one day.
A proud veteran, Bruce served 21 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Over the years, they lived in California, Ohio, Virginia, Alaska, Texas and Maryland. Bruce also served a year in Thailand during the VietNam war, gratefully working in the only air conditioned building on the base because it housed the computers he worked on.
His love of learning led him to a second career in education, where he taught Computer Science, coached soccer, and served as principal of San Antonio Christian School’s high school. He was a lifelong teacher, not just in the classroom but in every aspect of life, leading many Bible studies and inspiring others with his wisdom and faith.
Bruce had a deep love for the simple joys of life—fishing, running, woodworking and being with his family. His carpentry skills were one of the ways he served others, as exemplified by the loft beds Bruce built for his college bound sons and their friends.
Though not always demonstrative, his love was steadfast and unwavering. He had a dry sense of humor that could bring a smile at just the right moment and a quiet strength that uplifted those around him. His legacy of faith, dedication, and love of learning will live on in those who knew and loved him.
A service to honor Bruce’s life will be held at Fellowship Bible Church in New Braunfels, on March 8 at 11 am, with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Fellowship Bible Church.
